“I own a remodeling business, and things are bad”
*I've laid off my staff; picked up a 2nd job; my significant
other has been laid off 3 times in the last year and is now
only working 20 hours a week; we're having trouble paying the mortgage and depleting our savings. But every week at the grocery store we pick up at least 1 item to donate to the food bank: 2 for 1 pasta, an extra jar of peanut butter, a bag of rice - just one thing each week. We keep the items in a basket on the countertop. Then, at the end of the month, we donate it to our church's food pantry. We may only be spending $1-$2 every week, but if everyone did it, the impact would be significant. It's easy to get depressed and selfish when
you're having trouble making ends meet, but when I notice that basket of items sitting on the counter, I stop and thank God that we are still blessed enough to be able to put
food on the table.
