Millie* got laid off from her union job 7 months ago and her husband Bob works 2 jobs, but there's still not enough money coming in.
Their only child, Jennifer, hopes to attend community college in the fall, but the family is forced to choose which bills to pay each month. Late payments have led to higher balances on their accounts, and they feel like they'll never get out of debt. They get food once a month at the Dracut Food Pantry, freeing up some of their income for car insurance, mortgage, electric and other monthly bills. By providing this basic necessity of food to the family, the Dracut Pantry helps Bob, Millie and Jennifer move forward with their lives and get back on their feet sooner than they would otherwise.
The Dracut Food Pantry has been a member of the Food Bank since it opened in October 2008 and provides food to over 100 families each month. The Pantry and the Food Bank conduct a “Pantry Raid” neighborhood food drive in Dracut and other surrounding communities.
*Not their real names, but actual consumers of a local food pantry
